The fight quickly turns in the group's favor as Davakri flees, leaving behind another Carcerian Ranger in his place, which Kadath entraps mentally. Gaera is finally killed and Eshuto surrenders. As the final blows are being dealt, Kosha arrives to inform the group of a shadow that flies toward the Trentson estate. Kosha is left to guard Eshuto while the rest of the group head home.
Fix and Kadath head directly to the dungeon to find Funae weakened. She confirms that the manacles have cut her connection to her energy, the shadow dragon now above the home. Fix removes the manacles, but secures a daylight spell to prevent her from shifting into the shadows. He then charges one of the servants to guard her before he and Kadath head back up to join the fighting. Forsythe goes straight to the shadow and realizes there is another creature within it. After a few hits, the rider drops down to the ward where a few good hits causes it to break. This creature causes Forsythe to fall unconscious and sets his sight to finish him. However, Fix gets in the way and takes a few blows for doing so. Eventually, Ordeith deals the final hit causing the creature to dissipate into nothing. Forsythe and Ordeith remain on the roof shooting lightning and eldritch blasts at the remaining ghosts still fighting around and just outside of the estate. They make it a game and Forsythe is soon declared the winner. Fix and Kadath return to the dungeon to speak with Funae. She agrees to send off her dragon and is willing to try to break her connection with Velsharoon. Forsythe is called down for healing in case it goes poorly. Seeing the major threat taken down, Evangeline announces she is going to the Durkhal to check on the Amber Pope. Gavyn refuses to allow her to travel alone and follows her out of the estate. On the way there, she receives some information of Funae’s connection to the shadow dragon and pauses to look into her crystal ball.

While Fix held the banishment, Shallow prepared an antimagic field to contain Funae for when she returned to the material plane. Once she appeared, Forsythe and Fix could see the fluctuation in her form as she was held within the field and beneath a spell spilling out daylight. When questioned, she confides that she does what is asked of her and refuses to tell which god she serves. Ordeith comes closer and intimidates her with a variation of his dreadful form upon his face and a command to tell them. She is clearly intimidated by him, but moves closer to ask in a hushed tone if he also served Velsharoon.
Fix informs Gaera of Funae’s capture through the sending stone. Gaera threatens to unleash the Shadowfell if her sister is not returned. Meanwhile, Kadath gathers the blood from his sword into a vial and Shallow provides magical manacles for Funae’s transportation to the Trentson estate. Once they arrive back home, they place Funae into a cell then go to the library to discuss their plans. After settling on the Crown’s Tavern, messages are sent out to the Jagged Dream and the Order of Truth to aid in clearing the area of all citizens. Forsythe also sends out a message for Kosha to join them, which she does so quickly. Kadath takes the vial of blood to the Order of Truth and asks Ralet to research protection from a specific person or relations to those of this blood. Ralet informs him this will take much time as no known knowledge exists for this endeavor. Once all seems in place, Fix contacts Gaera once more through the ear to meet them at the tavern. At the tavern, Kosha takes up a spot outside to signal when she spots Gaera approaching. Inside, Fix sets a table with two mugs of dwarven ale while the others take up various positions. When Gaera arrives, she is accompanied by Eshuto and Davakri. An offer is made by Fix which Gaera refuses and the fight begins. Gaera is quickly joined by one Cacerian Ranger and three shadows. Blows are exchanged and Davakri looks rough. During this time, noises begin to increase outside the tavern. In the Trentson library, Evangeline pulls out her book to search for anything about Klastun. After some time, she discovers he is the son of a gold dragon who was betrothed to the Brightsun daughter. The Brightsuns were founders of Philolio and then traveled to Yosh-Lin to settle there. Toward the end of the second age, there was a fear of the shift of power and Klastun was imprisoned in Benilaira while his bride-to-be was entombed on the old altar as a memorial to the age of dragons. Digging a bit further, Evangeline confirms Benilaira is now where the Orgorek remains.
The group discuss the prophecy from Tatra concluding that the cursed city is in reference to the City of Bones. Fix remembers the riddle that aided them through the maze from when they were last there: Second built, First of its class, Third to fall, Last to die. They determined the City of Bones was once the ancient city of Yagoril. Evangeline shares her belief that the second stanza was in relation to the Brightsun daughter and shares her new pendant, glass sphere with a blue starburst. Though they are able to discredit that this was a key, it is agreed that this was the crest of the Brightsun family. Kadath then pulls out the new card. After examination, they determine this is the Key card and the goddess represented on it was Tamara, goddess of dragons. Not sure where to go from this point, Evangeline and Kadath decide to commune while Fix checks in with Zybella. Forsythe takes this time to wander the grounds and commune with nature and Ordeith takes a trip into town. Evangeline communes with Denier and receives confirmation on the symbol of Tamara and the need to reunite the Brightsun daughter with Klastun. Denier also assures her that additional information could be found at the Orgorek. In his commune with the Raven Queen, Kadath learns that she is happy that the swords are together again, but that this has not gone unnoticed. When pressed further, she reminds him that her enemy moves in the shadows and confirms the urgency to conquer and contain the forces spilling out of the City of Bones. Fix learns from Zybella that there is quite a bit of dealings with the undead in the Ba-Adenu forest, but they have it under control for the time being. She also informs him this started happening approximately three weeks prior. Ordeith, not quite sure what to make of the dream he had, decides to take a walk about Qi. Soon he finds himself standing outside the temple to the Raven Queen. Shrugging his shoulders, he turns to go when the door opens seemingly on its own. Entering the temple and finding no one present, he follows the path before him as other doors open. Eventually, he discovers the ceremonial pool of blood and feeling drawn in, descends the stairs. He encounters the Raven Queen who shows him a tapestry from which a thread is plucked and handed to him. When he touches it, a memory from before the fateful ritual comes back. She had placed a ward on him for that day. He releases the thread. She calls on him to wield Judgment on the Shadowfell. He asks for rest upon completion and she agrees then sends him back to the pool. Ordeith makes his way back to the Trentson estate, but not before terrorizing the townsfolk with his form of dread. Upon his return, he shares his experience. Kadath then decides to scry on Gaera and sees her in conversation with Funae. Funae seems reluctant but eventually gives in to the request to retrieve an item from an archfey. Evangeline also uses her crystal ball to see Gaera in conversation with a Carcerian Ranger. They make some agreement and the vision goes to the throne room where the ranger seems to be reporting information to her. After this, a couple more blurry visions come through of Gaera in two different places, Corini’s and the City of Bones. Upon hearing Kadath’s and Evangeline’s visions, he quickly puts things together and darts out of the estate with Kadath on his heels. Kadath catches up and pulls Fix into an ally to teleport directly to the circle within Corini’s shop. Evangeline grabs Ordeith and goes to Forsythe to teleport them to Corini’s believing that is Fix’s destination. When they all arrive, Evangeline and Ordeith become invisible. Evangeline sends Buckley to follow to Corini’s then make himself hidden. Forsythe leads to Corini’s then finds a nearby roof to scout out the place. Kadath and Fix find themselves inside and have a brief conversation with Shallow who seems unconcerned. After they head to the main part of the shop, they hear noise from the back room. Kadath misty steps inside and finds Funae looking through the various vials and bottles upon the tables. Startled, Funae disappears into a shadow and dissipates, but not before Kadath is able to catch her with his blade, leaving behind blood. The group split up to take care of business while in Qi. Fix visits Gidna at the tavern to find her mentally checked out. After waiting for a bit, Fix gets her attention. Gidna explains her mental absences as best as she knows how, realizing how comfortable she got with Darling. When asked about her offering to house Darling permanently, she admits having more time without the scarab would be beneficial for her.
Evangeline heads to the City of Bridges to meet up with Kilmoc, the Amber Pope. She finds several papers on his desk while she waits for his return. One in particular catches her attention, a list of places that have reported unusual sightings of things undead. Once Kilmoc arrives, Evangeline shares about her adventures in the Feywild, leaving out some details about Ordeith. He then takes her about the town, has dinner with Meus, and offers her lodging for the night. Evangeline accepts and takes the evening to learn more about a pendant she picked up in town. She learns the blue starburst within the sphere is a symbol of the Brightsun family. This family aided in founding Philolio then moved north to settle in Yosh-lin. Kadath and Ordeith go to the temple in Qi to give Ralet the needed ingredients for the protection pendant. As they talk, Ralet finishes up the charm and gives it to Kadath. As they are leaving, Tatra stops them. She hands a new card to Kadath that came with a cryptic message. Kadath relays it immediately to Fix and thanks Tatra for the card. They go back to the estate to meet up with Fix and give Gidna the pendant. That night Ordeith is visited by the Raven Queen. She shows him the beauty of a city prior to its curse, and the current situation of the City of Bones. She also tries to encourage him saying” Fear not, for what he gives I can provide.” He shares this the next morning after several prompting from Forsythe and Fix. Later that morning, Gavyn returns and they have some fun as they watch Ordeith win a drinking wager against him. Evangeline returns with more news, sharing with the group about the paper she found. They all begin to discuss the unrest of the undead. Possible correlation to when the two swords came into proximity to one another. They also discuss the message from Tatra regarding the forces that swell. When recounting the message, one name stood out. Who is Klastun? |
